Knowing what is inside your sunscreen is beneficial not only to you but also to the great vast ocean. Many brands of sunscreen contain harmful chemicals that damage reefs and other oceanic life. The next time you are on the hunt for your SPF, take a gander at the ingredients; if it contains oxybenzone and octinoxate sunscreen, you want to steer clear.
They want you to know that the term 'reef safe' isn't regulated yet, and checking the ingredients is the most surefire way to detect toxins in your sunscreen. You could even go a step further and get you're ocean-friendly in a plastic-free container, limiting the use of one-time-use plastics that often make their way into the ocean, causing pollution.
