Olsen was a beloved member of a small farm near Oakhurst, California. When his owner offered to rehome his friend Nightshade, she offered Olsen to Kids for Conservation as well. Olsen is the largest Goat in our mini herd and is sweet unless provoked by his adopted brothers. He is the big boss and the others look to him for guidance in moments of uncertainty. He was born with a mouth deformity called parrot mouth- a pronounced overbite that doesn't slow him down at all.

Albert and his three brothers were the first goats adopted by Kids for Conservation. This fancy goat breed is generally kept for their hair which makes for warm blankets and clothes. Unfortunately, both of his brothers died separately, due to predation and a husbandry malfunction, leaving Albert solo for a short period of time. During that time, Albert became very attached to his human caretaker and the family dog. When Mack came onto the scene, Albert once again found himself a new brother and the two have been close ever since.

Mack is a caramel-colored pygmy goat that could rule the world if he had opposable thumbs. He was adopted from a family from Watsonville, California with his brother Moonshine. After a few months in the Kids for Conservation herd, it became clear Moonshine preferred a different lifestyle and was rehomed yet again to live out his days constantly trying to escape a permanent 8' fence, which fortunately he has no hope of doing. Mack, however, was born for overgrowth clean-up and is the first one out of the born in the morning, running towards the weeds with gusto. 

Our wiley Nightshade was donated to Kids for Conservation with his 'brother' Olsen from Oakhurst, California. He is one of the most gregarious of our goats and will follow people around in between his snacking on the nearby brush. When let out of the barn, he leaps into the air like an electrocuted squirrel and gallops off, running around in circles, to stretch his legs. As a La Mancha, he has no external ears like most other goats and his ears need to be monitored regularly for infection.  He is the first one up a hill and the first one down, crashing through the brush like a locomotive.  he is fearless and loving. Nightshade and Blue, the livestock guardian pup, have a special bond that was forged in utter chaos, since Blue was a puppy.

Our little Nutsy was donated a few months after Olsen and Nightshade were brought home to our herd at Kids for Conservation. He was gifted by the same woman from Oakhurst, California. After his brother "Pickles" passed away, Nutsy was beside himself and his previous owner thought he would be happier with our rag-tag bunch of boys. Well, she was right! Nutsy is Olsen's little shadow and while he isn't very touchy-feely with humans, he would crawl under Olsen's skin if he could, to get even closer than he already is. We are trying to get him to be more comfortable with people by offering him treats from hand while giving him the space he needs to feel safe when people are around. 

Our newest member of the herd, Sawyer, is the youngest and the smallest. He was rehomed after his original farm was having issues with goat-aggressive dogs who already had taken a few lives. He has a similar coloring to Mack, but is much slimmer and has an small angelic face and ears that would make Dumbo jealous. When he was picked up from his original home, he spent 30 minutes in the car screaming, sounding like a terrified child. Once, at home with Kids for Conservation, he recognized safety, integrated almost immediately into the herd, bonded with Nightshade, and has never made that awful sound since.  Seeing his evident joy as he bunny hops from A to B, it's apparent Sawyer is where he is meant to be.
